The popular mid-size FANUC M-710 series of six-axis multipurpose industrial robots is seeing a complete renewal, starting with the introduction of two newly developed models offering several key enhancements that further expand their already extensive capabilities. The new FANUC M-710𝑖D series will replace the FANUC
M-710𝑖C range, with the first two models (M-710𝑖D/50M and M-710𝑖D/70) providing a slim and stylish design that will bring both sophistication and performance to applications that include machine tending, material handling, assembly, palletising and welding.

“The popularity of our M-710𝑖C series robots over the past years is testament to their high performance in a wide variety of industrial applications,” says Paul Ribus, Head of Sales Coordination RO Europe at FANUC Europe. “We can assure customers that our new M-710𝑖D series models retain all the best features of the previous-generation robots with a number of key enhancements and a smart new design to meet evolving industry requirements.”

FANUC’s new M-710𝑖D/50M and M-710𝑖D/70 6-axis multipurpose robots build on the legacy of the M-710𝑖C series for precision, efficiency, versatility and ease-of-use.

The M-710𝑖D/50M offers a long reach of 2606 mm supported by ±0.06 mm repeatability. Replacing the previous M-710𝑖C/45M, the M-710𝑖D/50M offers 5 kg more payload (50 kg, up from 45 kg). Another new feature is the introduction of a curved J2 axis, which provides a notable operational efficiency to users. Part of the robot’s state-of-the-art design, the curved J2 arm minimises any interference with workpieces or fixtures as it reaches into deep boxes, for example, ensuring smoother and safer operational dynamics.

The extremely slim M-710𝑖D/50M maintains many proven M-710 concepts, such as a market-leading weight-to-payload ratio that balances efficiency and performance. Enhanced with increased load capacity and higher axis speeds, users also benefit from a fully enclosed, IP54-rated design, believed to be unique in the market as a standard offer. The robot arm and wrist are even IP67 rated. This design concept offers robust protection against the ingress of water and dust, shielding sensitive components like motors, encoders and wiring harnesses to enhance durability and reliability. The maintenance-friendly M-710𝑖D/50M arm also fully integrates services such as I/O signals and air supply.

With these design features, the M-710𝑖D/50M is a versatile and reliable choice for many diverse industrial applications, including those that are wet, dusty or dirty. Vertical markets set to benefit include automotive, aerospace, electronics, pharmaceuticals, food and medical, as well as the general machining, fabrication, casting and moulding sectors.

FANUC is also releasing the M-710𝑖D/70, which replaces both the M-710𝑖C/50 and M-710𝑖C/70. This new model combines the fast operating speed of previous 50 kg payload model with the lifting capability of the 70 kg payload robot.

Again, offering six controlled axes, the multipurpose M-710𝑖D/70 industrial robot provides a maximum reach of 2104 mm. It offers all the same capabilities, features and enhancements as the M-710𝑖D/50M, including IP67 environmental protection at the wrist and J3 arm. It also offers impressive repeatability of ±0.03 mm.

As a final point of note, the absence of singularities means both the M-710𝑖D/70 and M-710𝑖D/50M can be used as palletising robots without the need for additional hardware. Only by adding an optional palletising mode can the robots be operated as 5-axis palletising robots.

The new M-710𝑖D series robots maximise flexibility thanks to their suitability for mounting in any position: floor, wall or upside-down.
